Biography

I received a BSc in Marine Biology at the “Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Yucatan” (UADY), working with the reproduction and growth of the Yucatan Peninsula’s red octopus (Octopus maya). Later in 2012, I started my MSc in Marine Ecology at the “Centro de Investigación Científica y Educación Superior Ensenada” (CICESE) with a thesis about the benthic diversity in Bahia de los Angeles, Baja California obtaining my degree in 2014. Finally, I received my Ph.D. from the “Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México” (UNAM), researching how the ecological niche models can be used in the management strategies of fishery resources. Currently, I am a Postdoctoral fellow working at CICESE in the Biotechnology department.

Projects

Ecological Niche models (ENM)

Ecological Niche models (ENM)

This project is focus on the Ecological Niche Modeling (ENM) using different tools such as kuenm and ntbox R packages. I am working with climate change scenarios to assess the vulnerability of commercially important marine species, such as red octopus (Octopus maya) in Mexico and Pacific chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus) in Peru.

Impact of climate change on Mexican marine resources

Impact of climate change on Mexican marine resources

This ongoing project uses Ecological Niche Modeling (correlative and mechanistic) to predict the impact of different climate change scenarios on Mexican marine resources.

Estimate Size at Sexual Maturity

Estimate Size at Sexual Maturity

This is an R-package to estimate Size at Morphometric and Gonadal Maturity for organisms, usually fish and invertebrates. It includes methods for classification based on relative growth (principal components analysis, hierarchical clustering, discriminant analysis), logistic regression (frequentist or Bayes), parameters estimation and some basic plots. The estimation of morphometric maturity used two allometric variables and is based on the relative growth. On the other hand, the estimation of gonadal maturity used one allometric variable and the stage of sexual maturity (gonad maturation stage).
